Synopsis: War 2 unfolds a clash between two warriors. Kabir, played by Hrithik Roshan, is now a mercenary working for a secret society called ‘Kali’. His mission? To kill Colonel Luthra. Luthra’s daughter, Kavya (Kiara Advani), is devastated and seeks revenge. Enter Vikram (Jr NTR), a fierce spy who is determined to track down Kabir and fulfill the mission.
Review: The storyline may have intrigued on paper, but the execution falters. The screenplay, penned by Shridhar Raghavan, lacks freshness and excitement. Although there’s a brief thrill, especially during a chase in Spain, the film struggles to maintain momentum. The second half drags, stretching promising ideas too thin. Also, the concept of ‘Kali’ can leave many viewers confused.
War 2 tries for depth by delving into the characters’ backstories, but it often feels out of place. The romantic subplot doesn’t add value and instead takes away from the action.
Performances: Hrithik Roshan brings energy to his role, proving his worth as a leading man. Although Jr NTR has limited screen time, his presence is impactful. Kiara Advani shines in action scenes while Anil Kapoor gives a solid performance despite limited material. Other supporting actors, including Ashutosh Rana and Gautam Gulati, add color to the narrative.
Technical Aspects: The music by Pritam is generally forgettable, but the background score is engaging. Cinematography by Benjamin Jasper elevates many scenes, though visual effects sometimes lack realism. Editing, unfortunately, makes the film feel longer than it should be.
Final Thoughts: Overall, War 2 may struggle to find its footing in the YRF Spy Universe. Initial box office success could be deceiving, as maintaining interest in the long run may prove challenging. As the audience becomes more discerning, films like these must refine their approach to storytelling to truly resonate.
