Morehead, KY – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) soccer team faced a tough match against Morehead State, ending in a 1-0 loss. This was their second game of the season and took place at the MSU Soccer Field.

In the first half, the score was tied at 0-0. Morehead outshot APSU 4-2. Freshman forward Taylor Grover had one of the Govs’ shots, testing the Morehead keeper, Claire Cress, early on. Lindsey Arnold also took a shot right before the half.

Morehead’s first notable save came from APSU junior keeper Lauryn Berry, who made a stop after a shot from Morehead’s Karissa Vela. The second half saw the Governors outshoot the Eagles 5-3, but Morehead struck first. In the 64th minute, Kennedy Baquero’s corner kick found Faith Peper, who scored, sealing the match at 1-0.

Grover continued to fight for the equalizer, nearly scoring in the 70th minute when her shot hit the left post. The match stats show that Grover and Ellie Dreas each had two shots for APSU. Four players, including Berry, Dreas, McKenna Hogan, and Kylie Brandes, played the full 90 minutes.

In addition to the match stats, it’s interesting to note that the number of fouls was 15-10 in favor of Morehead, along with them earning more corner kicks, totaling seven.

As the season continues, APSU soccer aims to bounce back. They are set to play Northern Kentucky next, providing another chance to improve.
