Kearney Public Schools is launching a new program to support families, teaming up with the Cook Center for Human Connection. Starting in August, all KPS families can access free, confidential one-on-one parenting coaching through ParentGuidance.org. This platform is designed specifically for parents and guardians.
The program offers weekly online sessions with licensed coaches. These professionals help families tackle everyday challenges like anxiety, screen time, discipline, and emotional connections. KPS Superintendent Jason Mundorf emphasized the importance of supporting parents during both joyful and tough times. He believes this initiative will empower families.
No matter where parents are in their journey, the coaching is tailored to their needs. Sessions are flexible and always confidential. Anne Brown, president and CEO of Cook Center for Human Connection, expressed pride in the collaboration. She noted that by providing education and resources, they aim to support the caregivers who play a vital role in children’s emotional well-being.
In addition to personalized coaching, ParentGuidance.org offers:
- On-demand video courses led by licensed therapists on topics such as anxiety, grief, and self-worth.
- Live webinars featuring mental health professionals.
- A Q&A platform called “Ask a Therapist,” where parents can get answers to common parenting questions.
This initiative comes amid rising concerns about mental health, especially as recent surveys show a significant increase in anxiety-related issues among parents and children during the pandemic. According to a recent report by the American Psychological Association, nearly 80% of parents in the U.S. have reported feeling stressed about their parenting responsibilities since COVID-19 began.
KPS encourages all families to check out these resources and consider registering for coaching at ParentGuidance.org. The process is simple and ensures that support is available when it’s needed most.
