Tesla has just launched the Model YL in China. This new version of the Model Y comes with six seats and starts at ¥339,000, which is about $47,000 USD. This price is around $3,600 more than the existing Model Y Long Range in China.
One of the standout features is its impressive range. The Model YL can travel around 751 km (466 miles) on a single charge, based on China’s CLTC driving cycle. This is significant because the range is similar to the smaller Model Y Long Range, thanks to its larger battery.
The Model YL is also slightly bigger, measuring about 7 inches longer and 1 inch taller than its predecessor. The longer wheelbase, which adds about 6 inches, provides more interior space. It boasts up to 2,539 liters of storage and includes electric armrests in the second-row seats for added comfort.
In comparison to the market, the Model YL’s pricing is competitive but notably higher than other electric SUVs in China, such as the Onvo L90, which is approximately $8,000 less. Auto experts believe Tesla needs to cater to a broader audience in China by offering more affordable options rather than just premium models.
Looking ahead, Tesla plans to start delivering the Model YL in September. The anticipation is palpable as consumers are curious about how it will fare once it arrives in North America. If priced similarly, it could be a hit at around $51,000 USD, possibly overshadowing the Model X.
