Binghamton Women’s Soccer Shines in Win Against St. Bonaventure
Binghamton’s women’s soccer team celebrated a 2-1 victory over St. Bonaventure at the Bearcats Sports Complex. Sophomore forward Jahkaya Davis stole the spotlight, scoring both goals for Binghamton, bringing their record to 2-0 this season.
Davis fired the first goal just six minutes into the match. With a quick reaction to a deflected pass from junior Paige Luke, Davis took a precise shot from 15 yards, sending the ball into the top left corner of the net. The Bearcats dominated early, outshooting the Bonnies 10-0 in the first half.
In the 57th minute, Davis struck again. She dribbled 50 yards from midfield into the box and calmly slotted a shot past the goalkeeper. This solidified the Bearcats’ lead at 2-0.
St. Bonaventure managed to narrow the gap with a long-range free kick in the 73rd minute, but Binghamton held strong through the tense closing moments of the game.
Head coach Neel Bhattacharjee praised the team’s performance. “Our pressure on the ball was good, and we scored some quality goals. But the end was a bit tighter than we wanted,” he noted. The Bearcats totaled 18 shots, with junior goalkeeper Rebecca Kessler not facing any shots in the first half, before freshman Bella Grace Dunn made two saves in the second half.
As they prepare for their next match against Monmouth in New Jersey, the Bearcats look to build on their promising start to the season.
