Packers and Seahawks Joint Practice Highlights
The Packers wrapped up their training camp with an exciting joint practice against the Seattle Seahawks at Nitschke Field on Thursday.
Standout Performers
Tight ends Tucker Kraft and Luke Musgrave were the stars of the day. With the receiving corps facing some injuries, quarterback Malik Willis leaned heavily on them. Musgrave made a remarkable catch over Seahawks cornerback Riq Woolen, gaining more than 40 yards. The crowd went wild as Musgrave got back up, leaving Woolen stunned on the ground.
“It was a perfect ball,” Musgrave said. “If the defender’s back is turned, you’re open because they don’t know where the ball’s going.”
Musgrave also made a touchdown catch from starting quarterback Jordan Love and had another vital reception during a late-game scenario. Meanwhile, Kraft had several impressive catches, showcasing his playmaking skills.
The Packers have high hopes for these two tight ends. Injuries have kept Kraft and Musgrave from being on the field together much in their two seasons, but Musgrave feels great this year. “It’s all coming together,” he said about their hard work. “We’re an incredibly competitive group.”
Safety Update
All-Pro safety Xavier McKinney returned to practice after a two-week hiatus due to a calf injury. He is confident about being ready for the regular-season opener against Detroit on September 7. McKinney said, “Everything felt good. I just need to focus on my conditioning.” While he did not participate with the team, he cheered on fellow safety Evan Williams, who made a crucial interception during the practice.
Practice Intensity
The practice wasn’t without its drama. There were two altercations between the teams, sparked by a Seattle player stepping into the Packers’ huddle. Right tackle Zach Tom recognized the competitive spirit but valued how the team came together. “Everyone had each other’s back,” he noted.
Despite the skirmishes, cornerback Keisean Nixon felt productive. “Joint practices are invaluable for competition,” he said. “This is a different kind of physicality compared to practicing with our own teammates.”
Jordan Love’s Progress
Quarterback Jordan Love got in valuable reps, taking all snaps during the red-zone period. He found running back Josh Jacobs and connected with both Kraft and Musgrave for touchdowns. Love, who recently had thumb surgery, felt no discomfort. “It’s tight down there in the red zone, but it was good to get that practice,” he said.
Rookie Spotlight: Savion Williams
Rookie wide receiver Savion Williams has had a challenging training camp with multiple injuries, including a hamstring issue. Despite this, head coach Matt LaFleur praised his dedication: “He engages well, and we like what we see when he’s on the field, but he’s been limited.” The Packers hope to see Williams bounce back and fully participate soon.
Conclusion
The joint practice was a mix of skill showcases and spirited competition. With the regular season approaching, the Packers are looking to harness their talent and tackle any challenges ahead. The buzz around Kraft, Musgrave, and an eager rookie class makes for an exciting season.
