How Gen Z is Sparking a Global Vintage Revival: Insights from Pinterest’s Latest Fall Trend Report

This fall, vintage fashion is making a big comeback. According to Pinterest’s Fall Trend Report, Gen Z is driving a surge in interest for thrift shopping. Young people are changing how they shop, decorate, and style their lives. Items that once felt like hidden gems are now hot picks—proving that secondhand treasures are worth celebrating.

Pinterest is becoming the go-to place for fall inspiration. More than half of its global users are Gen Z, making it a key platform for those looking to personalize their style. This generation is not just browsing; they’re actively seeking ideas for unique thrift finds and creative home decor.

The numbers are impressive: searches for “dream thrift finds” among Gen Z have soared by 550%. Interest in “vintage fall aesthetic” has increased by a staggering 1,074%. Thrifting isn’t limited to clothing; searches for “thrifted kitchens” and “thrifted decor” have risen significantly too. This indicates that vintage style is creeping into every aspect of life.

Men in Gen Z are also embracing this trend. Searches for “men thrift outfits” are up 31%, and interest in vintage men’s watches has jumped by 65%. This shows that the appeal of unique, secondhand finds cuts across genders.

Retailers should take notice. This thrift revival offers a chance for them to get creative. Brands can explore vintage-inspired collections or even create programs to help people give their lightly used items a new life. There’s room for innovation, especially with home goods seeing a rise in thrift-related searches.

Across Asia-Pacific (APAC), interest in thrift shopping is growing fast. For example, in India, searches are up 127% year-over-year. Japan has seen a 55% increase, while Korea shows 31% growth. Singapore is up 33%. As these markets flock to one-of-a-kind finds, search terms like “thrift flips” and “dreamy aesthetic vintage” are rapidly gaining traction.

“What we’re seeing in APAC is more than just a fashion trend; it’s a mindset shift,” says Ayumi Nakajima, a senior director at Pinterest. She notes that Gen Z values creativity and sustainability, among other things. Pinterest allows them to explore ideas visually and transform inspiration into action. The platform’s ability to analyze trends helps brands stay ahead in meeting Gen Z’s evolving tastes.

Thrifting is not merely a trend for Gen Z; it signals a shift towards more sustainable and individualized lifestyles. They’re using platforms like Pinterest to discover unique items, adding a personal touch to their style and homes in a world full of mass-produced goods.
