Tommy Fleetwood delivered an impressive round of 63 on Friday, tying with Russell Henley at 13 under par after the second round of the Tour Championship in Atlanta. Fleetwood snagged eight birdies, with a sole hiccup occurring on the 16th, where he struggled after hitting a fairway bunker.
At 34, Fleetwood has been close to victory this season, missing out at both the St. Jude Championship and Travelers Championship. Despite 44 top-10 finishes, he hasn’t yet clinched a win on the PGA Tour. He jokingly remarked that winning the FedExCup and a $10 million prize this weekend would be quite the twist.
“I’m learning,” he shared. “I feel I’ve played well in contention but haven’t always finished strong. Winning consistently is my goal.”
Henley, starting the round two shots ahead, recorded a solid four-under 66, making key birdies on the 17th and 18th holes. Close behind at 11 under is Cameron Young, who had a fantastic performance, including six birdies on the back nine for a dazzling 62—the lowest score of the day.
Robert MacIntyre and Patrick Cantlay are both at 10 under, trailing just slightly. Meanwhile, Scottie Scheffler, currently ranked world number one, struggled with a 69, featuring three bogeys. His frustration was evident with a fist pump after a missed par-saving putt on the 14th.
In a highlight for the day, Shane Lowry made an incredible birdie putt from over 97 feet—the longest in FedExCup playoff history. He finished strong, shooting a 63 after starting with a par 70. Lowry now shares a position at seven under with Rory McIlroy, who completed a bogey-free 67.
