Midwest Montessori celebrated its grand opening on August 22, launching a new daycare and preschool in Minot. Located at 812 8th St. NW, the facility sits on land owned by the Minot State University Development Foundation. This project, co-owned by Caleb and Courtney Heilman, has been in the works for over three years.
During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Caleb Heilman shared his vision for the school. He wants to provide a nurturing space where children can learn and grow. “We wanted the best for our kids,” he said. “Safety, love, and high-quality education are our top priorities.”
The center caters to children from 6 weeks to 6 years old. It includes a Nido House for infants and separate classrooms for toddlers and older children, designed to foster independence and social responsibility. This hands-on learning approach is a key part of the Montessori method.
Rick Hedberg, the executive director of the MSU Development Foundation, highlighted the benefits for local families and MSU students. The facility will serve as a teaching site, providing practical experience for students in early childhood education. This collaboration reflects a growing trend in education where institutions partner with local businesses to enhance real-world learning.
As of now, Midwest Montessori has 15 children enrolled and plans to expand in the near future. The school aims to create a vibrant community for children and support the educational journey of future teachers.
In recent news, early childhood education continues to be a hot topic. According to a report by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), quality preschool programs can significantly impact a child’s learning and development. The emphasis on experiential learning, like what Midwest Montessori offers, aligns with research showing that children learn best through engagement and exploration.
With its unique approach and strong community ties, Midwest Montessori is poised to be a valuable resource for families in Minot while also shaping the next generation of educators.
