Joliet Junior College Graduate Triumphs on Food Network Show: An Inspiring Culinary Journey

Arron Sain, a Joliet Junior College graduate, recently achieved big success by winning a competition on the Food Network. He participated in “No Utensils Needed,” part of the “Supermarket Stakeout” series, which aired on July 22. This unique show pits chefs against each other in a pop-up kitchen outside a grocery store. They use money to buy grocery bags from shoppers and whip up dishes based on a theme.

In his episode, Sain and the other chefs created meals that could be eaten without utensils. His standout performance earned him a year’s worth of groceries. After winning, he expressed how fulfilling the experience was. “This is the most fulfilling day of my life,” he shared, feeling validated by the accomplished chefs around him.

Sain’s culinary journey started when he studied at Joliet Junior College in the early 2000s. He later appeared on WGN TV and has cooked for notable figures like Nick Cannon and Aaron Donald. He founded Insainly Fit Meals in 2015, after realizing there was demand for his healthy meal plans.

In addition to Sain’s achievement, another JJC alum, Liam Obrien, recently became the 2025 Top Young Chef in the U.S. during the Chaine des Rôtisseurs competition. Michael McGreal, head of JJC’s culinary arts program, noted that winners at the state level compete regionally, leading to the national title. Liam will soon face off against young chefs from around the world for an international title.

The Chaine des Rôtisseurs competition is prestigious and takes place every two years. Just two years ago, JJC alum Joey Baffoe won the top title, becoming the youngest American to do so.

These successes highlight the strong culinary program at Joliet Junior College, which has been nurturing talent for years.
