Empowering Youth: How MP’s Bold Challenges are Inspiring Fiji’s Future

Environment and Climate Change Minister Mosese Bulitavu recently addressed the Asia Pacific Youth Environment Forum 2025, urging young participants to voice their priorities for immediate government action. He emphasized that this forum is an essential step toward creating a sustainable future.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Bulitavu noted the importance of the Asia-Pacific Youth Manifesto 2025. This document will be more than just symbolic; it aims to shape policies by reaching key decision-makers in the region. He stated, “Your work in Nadi will resonate in regional and global discussions.”

The theme for the upcoming United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) is “Advancing Sustainable Solutions for a Resilient Planet.” This theme highlights the urgent need to adopt better approaches to environmental protection. Mr. Bulitavu reminded the youth that they are the future’s stewards and that their ideas are crucial for tackling pressing issues like climate change and biodiversity loss.

Experts have noted a growing recognition of the importance of involving young people in environmental policy. A recent survey indicated that 71% of young adults believe their input can lead to significant changes in government policies. By harnessing their collective voice, the youth at this forum can push for meaningful reforms.

Mr. Bulitavu encouraged the delegates to clearly define the changes they seek, the necessary tools for those changes, and how success can be measured. Identifying potential risks and strategies to manage them will also be vital.

The Asia-Pacific Youth Environment Forum 2025 is part of a broader initiative within the Sixth Forum of Ministers and Environment Authorities in the region. The event will wrap up on Friday at the Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay Resort & Spa, setting the stage for critical discussions on environmental governance.

By recognizing the value of youth engagement, this forum aims to build a healthier planet for future generations.
