Tragic Discovery: Missing New Orleans Boy Found Dead in Alligator Attack, Authorities Report

A 12-year-old boy with autism, Bryan Vasquez, tragically lost his life in what appears to be an alligator attack. After going missing on August 14 in New Orleans, his body was discovered in a canal this week.

Bryan was last seen early that morning when he escaped through a window, wearing only a diaper. Surveillance footage captured him walking alone at around 5:20 a.m. His search lasted nearly two weeks and involved multiple agencies, volunteers, and even drones. Unfortunately, his cause of death was confirmed to be drowning, with evidence suggesting he was attacked by an alligator.

This sad event has shifted the case from a missing person investigation to a homicide investigation. As the police continue to look into the circumstances, they urge the community to provide any leads. Currently, no suspects have been identified.

Bryan’s mother, Hilda Vasquez, mentioned that he often slipped away to nearby playgrounds, though they had recently moved. The response time from law enforcement has faced some scrutiny, with the police chief acknowledging a nearly five-hour delay in their arrival after the boy was reported missing.

This incident has sparked conversations in the community, as many are now more aware of the dangers of alligators, particularly in an area known for having the largest alligator population in the U.S. Every year, Louisiana wildlife officials remove over 1,000 so-called “nuisance” alligators to reduce human encounters.
