Facing Frustrations in Gears of War: Reloaded? Troubleshooting Steam Crashes and Matchmaking Issues

Gears of War: Reloaded, a remaster of the 2006 classic, hit the shelves this week. Initial feedback has been mixed, particularly for the PC version, which has a “mixed” rating on Steam. Players are experiencing crashes and missing features, like an FOV slider. Console gamers are also facing matchmaking challenges.

A major point of frustration is the absence of split-screen co-op on PC. Many fans had expected it, as it was once promoted as a key feature, but it has since disappeared from the Steam page.

In response to user complaints, Microsoft announced they are working on fixing the crashes and other issues. A social media post from Microsoft states that they are investigating the problems. The company also offered a potential fix for the Steam crashes, suggesting players delete a specific folder in their AppData.

Released on August 26 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, Gears of War: Reloaded marks an important milestone. It is the franchise’s first appearance on PlayStation after 19 years of Xbox exclusivity. Interestingly, this release coincided with another significant game launch, Helldivers 2, for Xbox.

Looking ahead, the next Gears of War title, Gears of War: E-Day, is set for a 2026 release. For more in-depth insights about Gears of War: Reloaded, check out GameSpot’s guide on collecting all the COG tags.
