Three East Carolina University football players, J.D. Lampley, Preston Carr, and Brock Spalding, recently had their suspensions lifted. They had been suspended following arrests last month after shots were reported near a Greenville house.
According to a report from 247 Sports, the police arrived after hearing gunshots. They found Lampley and Carr outside, who admitted to shooting a firearm. Spalding, who initially stayed inside, was also arrested for resisting police.
Their charges have since been dismissed, and the players are back in training, just in time for the 2025 season. Lampley is expected to play as a starting defensive end, Carr will likely be a rotational defensive tackle, and Spalding is among the team’s top wide receivers.
This situation highlights a larger trend in college sports where players often face serious consequences and scrutiny following off-field incidents. In recent years, schools have been increasingly strict about student-athlete conduct, reflecting a commitment to maintaining a positive image.
ECU is gearing up for its opener against NC State on August 28. This game holds significance due to previous tensions between the two teams, particularly after a notable brawl in last season’s Military Bowl, which led to suspensions for two NC State players. As of now, NC State is favored to win by 14.5 points.
