Thrilling Thursday Night: High Point University and Campbell Battle to Draw!

High Point Women’s Soccer Draws with Campbell University

In a close match on Thursday night, the High Point University women’s soccer team battled Campbell University, ending in a 2-2 draw at the Eakes Athletic Complex.

First Half Struggles

Campbell kicked off the game strongly, scoring two goals early, in the 9th and 18th minutes. High Point struggled to match that energy initially. Coach Aaron McGuiness noted, “We were flat at the start. We didn’t defend aggressively, which allowed them to take advantage.”

Turning the Game Around

The Panthers found their rhythm towards the end of the first half. Ellie Hammer set up Courtney Andruczk, who scored in the 34th minute with a clever shot over the Campbell goalkeeper. This goal marked Andruczk’s first of the season and provided a much-needed spark for High Point.

Second Half Comeback

High Point came back from halftime determined to equalize. In the 60th minute, redshirt sophomore Kari Powell made a fantastic move around Campbell’s defenders and fired a left-footed shot into the top corner, leveling the score.

Statistical Insights and Player Performances

Both teams had their chances in the remaining 30 minutes, but neither could take the lead. High Point goalkeeper Aubrey McKessy made five saves, showcasing her skills despite the back-and-forth nature of the match.

A report from the NCAA notes that teams scoring first often have a vital psychological advantage, making High Point’s comeback all the more impressive. This resilience might be a key indicator of their development under Coach McGuiness.

Looking Ahead

Next up, High Point will host Elon University at Vert Stadium on Sunday, August 31, at 7:00 p.m. The momentum from this draw could serve as motivation for that matchup.

With more matches to come, fans are hopeful that this performance will lead to future victories.
