Jerry Jones believes the Cowboys improved despite sending superstar Micah Parsons to a conference rival. He highlighted the benefits: more cap space, draft picks, and solid defensive tackle Kenny Clark joining the team.
By trading Parsons, the Cowboys freed up $19 million. They now have $42 million in cap space for 2025. This opens doors for extending contracts for key players like cornerback DaRon Bland and left guard Tyler Smith.
Jones emphasized, “It takes many players to build a team. We gained valuable resources from this trade.” He mentioned the team could use their two first-round picks to either acquire a standout player or to bring in several new talents, boosting overall team depth. While the picks may land in the 20s or 30s, he believes they can still lead to significant additions.
Kenny Clark, a three-time Pro Bowler, fills a major gap on the roster. The Cowboys struggled against the run last season, allowing over 100 rushing yards in 12 games. In their last three playoff games, they gave up 425 rushing yards and six touchdowns. “Kenny Clark will help us stop the run,” said Stephen Jones. “Our prior playoff losses are tied to our inability to do that.”
Historically, the Cowboys have made the playoffs three times in the past four years, but their record is disappointing at 1-3. Losing Parsons, a player on a Hall of Fame path, could seem like a setback. Still, Jerry Jones insists they’ve positioned themselves to be a stronger team going forward, despite last season’s 7-10 finish.
