Georgia Tech’s Thrilling Win Over Colorado

Boulder, Colo. — It was an exciting night as Georgia Tech snapped back from a rocky start to defeat Colorado 27-20. The spotlight was on quarterback Haynes King, who made an impressive play, faking a pitch and running 45 yards for a touchdown just before the end.

King’s performance was stellar. He rushed for 156 yards, scored three touchdowns, and threw for 143 yards. His run-heavy drive at the end showcased his skill. “They called my number. I did my job,” he said after the game, clearly proud of how he rallied the team.

Colorado had its chances, even with two timeouts left on their final drive. They made it to midfield but their Hail Mary attempt fell short. Coach Deion Sanders noted, “We could’ve won the game. It’s not like we got killed.” Despite being outgained 463-305 in total yards, he saw potential in his team.

Georgia Tech struggled early on, fumbling twice and throwing an interception in their first three plays. Last season, they only turned the ball over ten times. “We’ve got a lot to clean up,” acknowledged Coach Brent Key. But King’s performance steadied the ship.

Kaidon Salter led Colorado with a rushing touchdown and threw for 159 yards, showcasing talent in his debut. However, the Buffaloes are still finding their footing. After losing major players like Shedeur Sanders to the NFL, Coach Sanders remarked, “We don’t have time to gel. We’ve got to perform now.”

In a unique twist, a sideline bathroom was introduced for Coach Sanders, who is managing bladder cancer. His portable privacy tent was placed near the sideline for convenience.

The game also honored the late Bill McCartney, former Colorado coach, with patches on the players’ jerseys. In 1990, McCartney’s team famously split the national championship with Georgia Tech, linking the two programs in history.

This victory was significant for Georgia Tech. It marked their first regular-season win in the Mountain Time Zone since 1978. As for Colorado, they were without Ralphie VI, their live buffalo mascot, who recently retired.

Both teams will play again on September 6, with Georgia Tech hosting Gardner-Webb and Colorado facing Delaware.
