Another aspect to consider is Iamaleava’s controversial transfer from Tennessee. Reports suggested he sought a more lucrative NIL deal, but he clarified that family was his primary reason for moving. Even so, this narrative could overshadow his time at UCLA unless he starts to perform better. A comparison is worth noting: Iamaleava’s successor at Tennessee, Joey Aguilar, threw for three touchdowns in the Volunteers’ recent victory over Syracuse.
This game raises questions about Foster’s future as head coach. His comments, “We just played a good team, that’s it,” won’t calm concerns if UCLA doesn’t show marked improvement soon.
