East Texas Baptist University (ETBU) has hit a record high with 1,944 students enrolled this fall. This milestone includes 1,663 undergraduates and 281 graduate students, signaling a strong interest in their programs. It’s the first time enrollment has exceeded 1,900, a significant achievement for the university.
President J. Blair Blackburn expressed gratitude for the growth. He noted, “This historic milestone showcases God’s faithfulness and highlights our commitment to educating servant leaders.” His words reflect a dedication to ETBU’s mission in the midst of challenging economic conditions faced by many small colleges.
Freshman numbers also rose, with 387 first-time students enrolling—up 10.6% from last year. In addition, 131 transfer students joined this fall, a 5.6% increase from 2024. ETBU’s Adult Education program and dual enrollment also saw growth, with 100 and 313 students, respectively, marking significant records for both.
This steady increase in enrollment at ETBU shows a broader trend in higher education, where some institutions are struggling while others are finding ways to thrive. According to a recent survey by the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center, overall college enrollment in the U.S. has dropped, but schools like ETBU demonstrate resilience by focusing on community and student support.

Assistant Vice President Scott McCurdy praised the admissions team for their hard work in welcoming new students, suggesting that their efforts helped create a positive atmosphere for prospective Tigers.
