ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Concordia Texas women’s soccer team faced off against Southwestern University and came up short with a score of 2-1. Lorian Lopez kicked off the season by scoring the team’s first goal at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex this Labor Day Monday.
In the seventh minute, Tatum Winn lobbed a beautiful ball towards the box, allowing Lopez to fire the first goal for Concordia. The team nearly had another chance when Cecilia Escobar took a free kick just outside the box, hitting the crossbar in the 35th minute.
However, Southwestern equalized in the 38th minute, leaving the score 1-1 at halftime. Early in the second half, the Pirates found the net again, taking the lead. Concordia pressed hard for an equalizer, with several close passes in the final ten minutes.
In the closing moments, Abbie Adcock had a chance to tie the game, but her powerful shot flew just wide left. This miss sealed the victory for the Pirates.
Concordia Texas will travel to Brownwood, Texas, to take on Howard Payne University this Thursday, September 4th, at 5 PM.
