Supporting Local Families During National Hunger Action Month
September is National Hunger Action Month, and a new collaboration between Our Daily Bread Food Pantry and Tamiami Ford aims to help families in Southwest Florida. From September 15 to 25, you can drop off nonperishable food donations at Tamiami Ford on Airport Road in Naples. All donations will go directly to Our Daily Bread, which supports families in need in the area.
Hunger is a global issue. The 2024 State of Food Security and Nutrition report reveals that between 713 and 757 million people struggled with hunger in 2023, which is about one in eleven people worldwide. However, this issue hits home, too. Local families are feeling the pinch from rising grocery prices and cuts to federal assistance.
Evelyn Rosetti-Ryan from Our Daily Bread highlighted the struggles many face: “With federal cuts and increasing food prices, families are finding it hard to make ends meet.” The food collected at the drive will significantly impact the community.
Donations of canned goods, pasta, rice, and other shelf-stable items are welcome. Every item collected will be distributed locally, supporting those who need it most.
In today’s economy, the need is greater than ever. A recent survey found that 35% of families in the region are unsure where their next meal will come from. Efforts like this food drive underscore the importance of community support during tough times.
Participating in local initiatives not only helps those in need but also strengthens our community ties. Remember, every little bit helps—your contributions can make a big difference!
