Meet Travis Owen: Inspiring Softball Coach at Syracuse University Athletics

Travis Owen has joined the Syracuse softball team as an assistant coach in August 2025. He brings over a decade of coaching experience across various levels of the sport.

Most recently, he led the Northwestern Ohio softball program to impressive heights. During his three seasons there, the team achieved three consecutive 30-win seasons, including a record-breaking 35 victories last spring. They also set new standards, including 17 conference wins in 2025, 83 stolen bases, a .470 slugging percentage, and a .374 on-base percentage.

Before Northwestern Ohio, Owen spent a year at DBat San Antonio. There, he focused on developing athletes through personalized training, nutrition, and coaching. His coaching journey includes a notable three-year stint at Minnesota Crookston, where he significantly increased the team’s win total and set new program records.

He also worked at Division I Northern Colorado, where he was the recruiting coordinator and led the hitting and pitching efforts. Under his guidance, the team improved each season, setting new Division I win records. Additionally, he played a crucial role at Radford, where his pitching strategies helped the team make a remarkable turnaround.

Owen’s international experience as a coach in New Zealand with the Howick Softball Club in 2014-15 added depth to his background. His coaching career began at Division III Lyon, where he achieved the third-best finish in the program’s history.

In terms of education, Owen holds a Bachelor’s in Business from St. Louis and a Master’s in Coaching, Health, and Physical Education from Northern State. His diverse coaching experience and proven success make him a valuable addition to the Syracuse staff.
