Celebrating Educators in Reno
Reno, Nevada is buzzing with excitement as Nevada Athletics teams up with the Extra Yards For Teachers Foundation and the College Football Playoff this Saturday. They’re hosting Educators’ Day to honor local educators and support schools in Northern Nevada.
From September 13 to 20, the week is dedicated to celebrating teachers. This Saturday, the Wolf Pack football team will recognize educators during their game against Middle Tennessee at 2 p.m. at Mackay Stadium. Educators can score tickets for just $10.
This year, the College Football Playoff Foundation continues its Conference Grant program. Each Mountain West institution will receive $11,000 to support local teachers. At Saturday’s game, one teacher will receive a $5,000 donation, along with six teachers who will each receive $1,000.
Last year’s winner was Cold Springs Middle School. The funds helped repair and buy instruments for their music department, impacting nearly 400 students. Ms. Smith and Ms. Schiwart worked hard to enhance their program, showing how targeted funding can make a big difference.
According to a 2021 National Center for Education Statistics report, teacher salaries had a steady rise, yet many still feel underpaid. This initiative can help bridge that gap and directly benefit students.
As educators face ongoing challenges, programs like this remind us how essential their work is. People have taken to social media to express their support. Many are sharing heartfelt stories about teachers who have made a difference in their lives.
In summary, Educators’ Day is not just a celebration; it’s a crucial reminder of the valuable role teachers play in shaping the future. As we cheer for the Wolf Pack, let’s remember the real MVPs—the educators who inspire us every day.
