Thrilling 1-1 Draw: North Texas Soccer Battles NJIT on the Road

NEWARK, N.J. – The UNT soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against NJIT on Saturday, wrapping up their east coast road trip.

The game started off tough for the Mean Green, as they fell behind 1-0 in the 16th minute. However, they fought back. In the 37th minute, senior Summer Brown scored, leveling the match after a well-placed cross from junior Georgia Guenther.

The second half was filled with opportunities. Peyton Renfro nearly put UNT ahead with a fierce shot that hit the crossbar. Lillian Vandiver also forced a great save from NJIT’s goalkeeper with a powerful shot from 35 yards out. The keeper turned in an impressive performance, racking up 12 saves.

UNT dominated the match in terms of shots, outshooting NJIT 27-10, with 14 of those on target. Brown’s goal marked the 18th of her career, making her the current leader in all-time goals for the program.

Next up, UNT will face UTSA in their American Conference opener on Thursday at 7 p.m. The Roadrunners recently secured a 2-1 victory over Florida Atlantic.
