Yesterday, Qatar’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, visited the 9th Katara International Hunting and Falcons Exhibition, “S’hail 2025,” which runs until September 14. This event is hosted by the Cultural Village Foundation, Katara.
During his visit, the Minister explored various exhibits showcasing the latest in hunting gear, falconry tools, and outdoor equipment. He also checked out the Ministry’s pavilions, where he learned about their services focused on nature protection, wildlife development, and digital services aimed at improving environmental management.
At the State’s Overseas Reserves Office pavilion, Al Subaie reviewed significant efforts to protect the endangered houbara bustard. This included an interactive map detailing existing and planned conservation centers. The exhibition also featured a live display of the houbara bustard and taxidermy specimens, as well as activities focused on raising awareness about this bird.
Furthermore, the Minister recognized private houbara breeding project owners for their vital work in biodiversity conservation. Dr. Farhoud Hadi Al-Hajri, the Ministry’s Public Relations and Communication Director, noted that this year’s exhibition emphasizes a fresh approach to environmental awareness, sustainability, and the protection of natural resources.
Such initiatives reflect Qatar’s commitment to biodiversity. According to a 2022 report from the International Union for Conservation of Nature, 1 million species are currently at risk of extinction globally due to various factors including habitat loss and climate change. Qatar’s focus on the houbara bustard is particularly significant, as the bird is essential for maintaining ecological balance in its native habitats.
This exhibition is more than just a display; it serves as a reminder of the vital work governments and communities must do to protect our planet. As we navigate challenges like biodiversity loss and climate change, events like S’hail 2025 highlight the importance of collaboration and innovation in conservation efforts.
