Nintendo is making waves with its upcoming Amiibo releases, introducing some of the largest and priciest figures fans have ever seen. Announced recently, characters from Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby Air Riders, and Super Mario Galaxy will each get their own unique Amiibo.
The standout figures come from the Kirby series, with a price tag of $50, marking them as the most expensive Amiibo to date. Historically, Amiibo figures have typically ranged from $20 to $30. When they first launched about ten years ago, they were even less at around $15.
What makes the Kirby figures special is their design. Theynot only include a character but also a machine they can ride, and the riders are interchangeable. This adds a fun twist to gameplay, where players can scan them to create in-game combos and level them up as Figure Players.
The Super Mario Galaxy Amiibo will sell for $40 and are larger than the standard figures. They are set to be similar in size to the Detective Pikachu Amiibo, which stands at 13.6 cm. In these games, scanning the Mario & Luma figure could grant players special items like a Life Mushroom.
As for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, the new Amiibo will cost between $30 and $40, with details yet to be revealed on the specific in-game benefits they will provide.
Nintendo recently held its longest Nintendo Direct presentation, showcasing around 40 new games. This included exciting announcements for new Pokémon, Fire Emblem, and Mario Tennis titles, along with updates on games fans have been eagerly waiting for.
Notably, over the years, Amiibo figures have gained popularity, creating a vibrant collector’s market. According to a 2020 survey by Statista, about 20% of U.S. gamers own at least one Amiibo, showing how these collectibles resonate with fans.
As consumers look ahead, it’ll be interesting to see how these new Amiibo will be received. Each release builds nostalgia and excitement, connecting fans with beloved characters in unique ways.
