Abilene Christian’s volleyball team faced off against Tulsa but fell short, losing 3-0 at Moody Coliseum. This was a tough match, with the Wildcats leading in each set but unable to maintain that momentum.
In their next outing, ACU will compete at the Lamar Invitational, where they’ll play against Texas Southern, Cal State Fullerton, and Lamar.
Aubrey Beaver stood out during the match, leading her team with 14 kills and six digs. Remarkably, she has already racked up 126 kills this season, breaking the record for the most by a Wildcat in their first 10 matches at the Division I level. This surpasses Jennifer Loerch’s record of 122 from 2015.
Hannah Gonzalez contributed nine kills and a solo block, while Rachel Koss managed 30 assists and a service ace. Defensively, Brennan Ramirez had a strong performance with 20 digs.
The match was a nail-biter, especially the first set, where both teams exchanged leads. ACU led 21-18 with a 3-0 run, but Tulsa quickly tied things up. After a tense battle, Tulsa took the first set 31-29, overcoming multiple set points from ACU.
The Wildcats started strong in the second set, leading 10-5 early. However, they lost steam as Tulsa rallied back, ultimately winning the set 25-21.
In the third set, ACU led again 15-12 after a strong run but couldn’t hold onto the lead. Tulsa surged ahead with an 11-1 spurt, ultimately clinching the match with a 25-19 win.
This match highlights the challenges ACU faces in keeping momentum throughout the game. As the team prepares for the Lamar Invitational, they will need to focus on maintaining leads and finishing sets strong. The upcoming matches will be crucial for their season.
