On September 11, 2025, the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University hosted its third annual workshop on private environmental governance and sustainable business law. This event, co-sponsored by Vanderbilt Law School’s Private Climate Governance Lab, brought together passionate scholars to share and enhance their research.
Josh Galperin, an Associate Professor of Law and Director of the Sustainable Business Law Hub at Pace, organized the workshop. “We aimed to create a space where scholars could exchange ideas and improve their work,” he said. “Sustainable business law is crucial for a healthier environment, and these workshops facilitate important discussions.”
Scholars from eight different institutions participated, alongside Pace Haub Law alumni, faculty, and students. Including current students added fresh perspectives, making the workshop unique. “This collaborative effort is what sets Pace Haub Law apart,” Galperin noted. “We focus not just on theory but also on practical impacts.”
The workshop took place just before the annual ‘Profit & Purpose’ Sustainable Business Conference, co-hosted by Pace Haub Law and the Westchester County Association. This conference attracts business leaders, nonprofits, and government officials to discuss pressing sustainability issues like local leadership amidst federal changes and the links between climate change and healthcare. Many workshop attendees also participated in the conference, creating a vibrant exchange of ideas.
The first workshop in this series was held in spring 2023, marking the beginning of a new tradition in promoting sustainable business practices. The Sustainable Business Law Hub isn’t just a place for theory; it’s an incubator for real-world change, focusing on research, building connections with the business community, and addressing global environmental challenges.

A 2023 survey found that 70% of businesses see sustainability as a key priority, showing that the demand for knowledge in this field is stronger than ever. As society moves towards more sustainable practices, forums like this are essential for advancing the conversation and fostering innovation.
