The University of Cincinnati volleyball team wrapped up its non-conference schedule with an impressive 3-1 win over Eastern Kentucky. This victory brings their season record to 8-2 and marks a satisfying three-match win streak.
Sophomore Gretchen Sigman shone brightly, scoring a career-high 20 kills. She was supported by junior Sydney Nolan, who added 18 kills, and senior Carly Glendinning with 10. On defense, sophomore Lilly Gillespie dug up 15 balls, while junior Kayla Hostetler contributed 10 digs. Setter Andi Spies had a stellar performance, racking up 47 assists and surpassing 30 assists for the eighth straight match.
The game started with a tight battle, where Eastern Kentucky took a small lead at 8-6. Cincinnati responded with teamwork, as Glendinning and Brooke Crummel executed a block, narrowing the gap to 11-10. A string of effective plays rallied the Bearcats to clinch the first set.
In the second set, Cincinnati maintained the momentum, making three decisive scoring runs. Sigman’s powerful kills and another block from Glendinning and Crummel helped push their lead to 21-14, culminating in a 25-16 win.
Eastern Kentucky came back strong in the third set, taking an early lead. Cincinnati managed to tie it at 10, but despite their efforts, the Colonels edged out a 27-25 victory.
Not to be deterred, Cincinnati regrouped quickly in the fourth set. They built a strong lead early on and steadily extended it with key contributions from Spies and Glendinning. Nolan’s kills added to the advantage, allowing Cincinnati to close the match with a dominant 25-12 win.
With seven victories in their last eight matches, the Bearcats are gearing up for their Big 12 opener at UCF on Wednesday.
