Morrissey Cancels Upcoming Tour Amid ‘Credible Threat’ to His Safety: What Fans Need to Know

English singer-songwriter Morrissey has canceled his shows this weekend due to a credible threat against his life. His official Instagram announced the decision, stating, “In recent days, there has been a credible threat on Morrissey’s life. Out of caution for the safety of both the artist and audience, tonight’s show at Foxwoods is canceled. We appreciate your understanding.”

Boston’s MGM Music Hall, where he was scheduled to perform tomorrow, also shared a similar message. In light of the threat, they canceled the event, prioritizing everyone’s safety.

Morrissey, best known as a former member of The Smiths, is currently on his Nude Tour. He recently performed at Radio City Music Hall in New York without any incidents.

The cancellation follows a disturbing event where 26-year-old Noah Castellano from Ottawa was arrested for threatening Morrissey on the social platform BlueSky. Castellano allegedly posted a chilling message detailing his intent to harm Morrissey at an upcoming concert. Although Morrissey performed at the CityFolk festival shortly after this threat, the recent incident prompted serious concern for his safety. Castellano has since been released on bail and is required to live with his father in Washington, D.C.

As public figures face increasing threats in today’s digital age, incidents like this raise important discussions about artist safety and mental health. According to a 2022 survey by the UK’s Music Venue Trust, 40% of artists reported feeling unsafe at their performances due to various threats. This statistic emphasizes the real challenges musicians face beyond their stage presence.

Although Morrissey had bravely continued with his tour despite the threat, the recent events have led to deeper discussions about how artists are protected in their careers. It remains unclear whether Morrissey received additional threats or if this cancellation is a precautionary measure due to the alarming nature of the original post.

Fans who had tickets for the performances will be fully refunded through their original point of purchase.
