Taste of Jefferson County

COMMUNITY ATTENDS TASTE OF JEFFERSON COUNTY — Last year’s event brought together many Ohio Valley residents to support the United Way of Jefferson County. This year, it’s happening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 8 at St. Florian Hall in Wintersville. The theme is Halloween, and all proceeds will support 11 local agencies. — Julie Stenger

WINTERSVILLE — Ever wished you could try a dish before committing to it? You’re not alone! Many of us feel unsure about venturing into new culinary experiences at local restaurants and bakeries.

Fortunately, there’s a fantastic opportunity coming up: the 29th annual Taste of Jefferson County! This beloved event returns on October 8 at St. Florian Hall from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.

It’s the perfect chance to sample mouth-watering dishes from local establishments. Over a dozen businesses will showcase their popular dishes, from appetizers to desserts. This event, organized by the United Way of Jefferson County, serves as their largest fundraiser, raising vital funds for its member agencies.

Marci Snyder-Crawford, the new Executive Director of the United Way, is excited to take the lead this year. She attended last year’s event and wants everyone to share in the fun. With a casual atmosphere, attendees can relax, enjoy food, and connect with friends, all while supporting a great cause.

Interestingly, this year marks a new addition: some of the agencies supported by the United Way will have tables at the event. This is a great way for the community to learn about the services these organizations provide.

According to Snyder-Crawford, “Breaking bread together reinforces our community spirit.” The Taste of Jefferson County isn’t just about food; it’s about unity and support.

This annual event has been a staple in the Ohio Valley since 1995. It paused during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021, but in its return in 2022, it saw over 200 enthusiastic attendees. Last year, the response was overwhelming, with many eager to sample dishes from local food vendors.

Businesses like A Touch of Elegance and Cake Roll Creations will be there to showcase their culinary delights. Vendors appreciate this platform, as it helps expand their customer base by allowing patrons to taste and enjoy their signature dishes.

Guests will also have the chance to enter special drawings throughout the evening. Prizes include items donated by local businesses. Feedback from attendees not only helps vendors improve but encourages community connections.

This year’s Halloween theme adds an exciting twist, allowing vendors to decorate their booths. Attendees can vote for the “Best Entree,” “Best Dessert,” and the top thematic decoration. Past themes have captured the community’s imagination with fun and creative concepts.

The funds raised during this event impact many lives by supporting critical services in the community, including food assistance, youth programs, and disaster relief. The United Way’s mission drives them to help those in need, highlighting the importance of community support and engagement.

As we look forward to this year’s event, it’s essential to remember the role community gatherings play in building connections and supporting each other. Mark your calendars for October 8 and get ready for a fun, flavorful evening!
