Join the Brooklyn VFD’s Delicious Hamburger and Hot Dog Fundraiser to Support Our New Community Food Pantry!

Members of the Brooklyn Volunteer Fire Department and local residents came together recently for a festive fundraiser aimed at helping families in need. They held a delicious hamburger and hotdog plate sale to support the newly opened South Forrest County Food Pantry. This pantry started serving the community only three months ago and is making a real impact by distributing food boxes monthly.

At their latest event, volunteers not only sold food plates but also offered car washes, all for donations. Earlier this month, the pantry managed to give out 83 food boxes to 68 families. Nancy Davis, a board member of the pantry, expressed surprise at the high demand for assistance. “We didn’t realize how much of a need there was in this part of the county,” she said. It’s heartening to see how the community has embraced this initiative.

Food insecurity is a pressing issue nationwide. A recent report from Feeding America revealed that around 38 million people in the U.S. face hunger, highlighting the importance of local efforts like the South Forrest County Food Pantry. Establishing these support systems can make a significant difference in people’s lives.

For those looking to help, non-perishable food donations can be dropped off at various local sites, including the Forrest County Sheriff’s Office and any volunteer fire department. Nancy Davis is available for contact via her Facebook page for more information on how you can contribute.

By coming together, communities like Brooklyn are making strides to combat hunger and support their neighbors.
