In Nangal, Punjab, a significant health camp took place on September 21, organized by the Indian Minorities Federation (IMF) and the New India Development (NID) Foundation. This event was part of the “Sewa Pakhwada,” a fortnight dedicated to serving communities and celebrating Prime Minister Modi’s 75th birthday.
This camp was particularly crucial, coming soon after flooding in the area. Over 5,000 local residents, especially those affected by the floods, received essential medical services, highlighting the government’s focus on providing quality healthcare to all citizens.
Gulab Chand Kataria, the Governor of Punjab, attended as the Chief Guest. He emphasized the importance of service in Modi’s political journey and the shift in healthcare priorities under his leadership. This healthcare initiative was noted as a vital convergence of doctors and patients, marking a departure from past neglect of health issues in governance.
Member of Parliament Satnam Singh Sandhu echoed this sentiment, pointing out the significant transformation in India’s healthcare system over the past 11 years. He indicated that under PM Modi, the health budget has surged by 200%, increasing from Rs 33,278 crore in 2013-14 to nearly Rs 100,000 crore for the upcoming fiscal year. This funding boost has led to advancements in medical infrastructure, digital health, and immunization programs.
Recent statistics reveal that more than 58 million people have been screened for various types of cancer under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. This initiative aims to provide affordable healthcare, especially in rural areas. Notably, about 49% of the Ayushman cards issued have been for women, underlining a strong commitment to women’s health.
During the camp, 150 doctors, alongside 500 volunteers, offered services in 17 areas of medicine, including cardiology and dermatology. Patients not only received free consultations but also received essential medical tests and medications. A blood donation drive contributed 100 units, showcasing community spirit and cooperation.
Participants expressed gratitude towards PM Modi for prioritizing healthcare. Many noted a stark difference when compared to previous administrations, recognizing a renewed focus on accessible, high-quality care.
Health experts emphasized that the transformative initiatives under PM Modi, like Jan Aushadhi Kendras, have made significant strides. For instance, certain life-saving medications now have a reduced Goods and Services Tax (GST), making them more affordable. The government has taken actions such as exempting health insurance premiums from GST, potentially lowering costs significantly.
As India continues to evolve in its healthcare approach, innovations such as the Ayushman Bharat Health Account app and telemedicine services represent a major shift towards accessible and tech-driven healthcare. According to doctors, under PM Modi’s leadership, India is emerging as a model for universal healthcare.
