A significant health camp recently took place in Nangal, Punjab, organized by the Indian Minorities Federation and the New India Development Foundation. This event was part of the Sewa Pakhwada, a fortnight dedicated to service in honor of Prime Minister Modi’s 75th birthday. The goal was to provide essential health services to underserved communities, especially in light of recent flooding.
With over 5,000 residents attending, many of them families affected by the floods, this camp was crucial in curbing potential vector-borne diseases that often rise after such disasters.
Gulab Chand Kataria, the Governor of Punjab, attended the camp as the chief guest. He praised PM Modi’s commitment to healthcare, stating that health has become a core element of the government’s agenda. Kataria emphasized the importance of service and how it aligns with the teachings of Sikh Gurus.
The camp also focused on women and children, offering health screenings as part of the ‘Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan’ initiative, launched by PM Modi. This initiative aims to enhance health outreach among the most vulnerable groups.
Satnam Sandhu, a Member of Parliament, highlighted robust changes in India’s healthcare system over the past 11 years. He noted that the healthcare budget has increased by 200%, expanding access and improving services, even in rural areas. Data indicates that over 58 million people have been screened for cancer in recent years, thanks to initiatives like the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
During the health camp, more than 150 doctors and 500 volunteers provided services across 17 specialties, including cardiology, pediatrics, and dermatology. Attendees also received free medical tests, medicines, and support through a blood donation drive that successfully collected 100 units.
As India enhances its healthcare model, experts point out that PM Modi’s administration has made health services more accessible and affordable. Initiatives like Jan Aushadhi Kendras are key to providing low-cost medications.
Additionally, the government has significantly reduced GST on essential medicines and healthcare products. This change reflects a growing commitment to not only making healthcare affordable but also ensuring equitable access for all citizens.
The introduction of digital tools, like the Ayushman Bharat Health Account app, marks a forward-thinking approach to healthcare. This app allows individuals to store and access their medical records conveniently, while telemedicine services offer remote consultations.
