CARY, N.C. – The Washington women’s tennis team had a fantastic day at the ITA All-American Championships, winning six matches at Cary Tennis Park.
Jermine Sherif kicked things off with a three-set win against Baylor’s Kennedy Gibbs, finishing 6-2, 3-6, 6-1. She then secured her second victory of the day, beating Florida’s Nikola Daubnerova with a score of 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. This advances her to Monday’s qualifying draw.
In the consolation draw, Carina Syrtveit, Alexia Jacobs, and Marie Weissheim each emerged victorious in straight sets. Syrtveit triumphed 6-3, 6-2, Jacobs won 6-3, 7-5, and Weissheim finished her match 6-4, 6-3.
In doubles, Erika Matsuda and Syrtveit continued their winning streak, overcoming Wake Forest’s pair of Jingyi Li and Krystal Blanch with a score of 6-2, 6-1. They too will compete in Monday’s draw against Oklahoma’s Roisin Gilheany and Gloriana Nahum, ranked No. 27.
Looking ahead, Matsuda and Reece Carter will begin their singles matches on Monday morning.
