In Colorado Springs, food banks are facing a double challenge: fewer donations and an increasing demand. To counter this, local car dealerships are stepping up to help those in need.
This week, Ford dealerships worldwide are launching the Ford Building Together initiative, which focuses on collecting nonperishable food items. Two local dealerships, Phil Long Ford of Chapel Hills and Phil Long Ford of Motor City, are participating in this vital effort.
According to Steven Hogarth, Service Director at Phil Long Chapel Hills, “There are 9,000 dealerships involved globally.” He added, “Phil Long has always been committed to philanthropy, and we’re excited to join this initiative.”
People can drop off food items until September 29 at several locations, including:
- Phil Long Ford of Denver, 7887 W Tufts Ave, Denver, CO 80123
- Phil Long Ford of Chapel Hills, 1565 Auto Mall Loop, Colorado Springs, CO 80920
- Phil Long Ford of Motor City, 1212 Motor City Dr, Colorado Springs, CO 80905
- Phil Long Ford of Raton, 223 S 2nd St, Raton, NM 87740
The donated food and funds will benefit local food banks directly. Hogarth mentioned their goal is ambitious: to fill a truck with donations. “Bring whatever you can spare from your pantry,” he said. “If you can buy something extra, that’s wonderful too.”
This initiative is timely. In a recent survey, 1 in 6 Americans reported struggling to put food on the table. Community efforts like this are crucial in addressing food insecurity, especially as more families face economic pressures. Supporting local charities can make a significant difference in the lives of those affected.
By working hand-in-hand with the community, these dealerships not only provide essential items but also uplift local spirits. Every contribution counts, and together, we can make an impact.
