COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Athletics is stepping up its game by launching a financial education program for student-athletes, in partnership with Edward Jones. Starting this fall, these athletes will get valuable resources to manage their finances effectively.
The program includes engaging workshops based on Edward Jones’ Financial Fitness curriculum. These workshops cover crucial topics like budgeting, investing basics, and how to handle taxes. There’s also an option for personalized coaching, ensuring student-athletes can tailor their financial plans to their unique situations.
Laird Veatch, the University’s Director of Athletics, emphasized the importance of financial literacy. He noted that understanding finances is essential for life, especially for student-athletes navigating new challenges with revenue sharing and Name, Image, and Likeness deals.
Andy Miedler, Chief Financial Officer at Edward Jones and a Mizzou alum, shared, “This program reflects our belief that financial education can transform lives. Empowering student-athletes to make informed decisions is crucial for their future.”
Additionally, student-athletes will have access to a mobile-friendly financial literacy platform through a partnership with Goalsetter. This tool aims to help them build healthy money habits, making personal finance more accessible.
Mizzou Athletics boasts 450 student-athletes participating in 20 sports. Their recent accomplishments include exceptional performances in football and volleyball, along with a strong focus on academics. In fact, during the 2025 spring semester, they achieved a collective GPA of 3.40, the highest on record.
This focus on both sports and education reflects a trend among universities emphasizing comprehensive development for student-athletes. According to a recent NCAA report, schools with robust academic support programs see better student outcomes overall.
Overall, Mizzou and Edward Jones are showing a commitment to not only excellence in athletics but also in life skills, ensuring student-athletes are ready for the future. For more about this program and its impact, you can check out the full details on Edward Jones’ press release.
