Alexandr Wang, the 28-year-old co-founder of Scale AI, has some great advice for teens eyeing a tech career. He suggests honing artificial intelligence (AI) skills by using the many AI-powered code-generating tools now available.
In a recent episode of the “TBPN” podcast, Wang shared his thoughts on AI coding, emphasizing its growing importance. He stated, “It’s impossible to understate the degree to which I’ve been radicalized by AI coding.”
So, what exactly is AI coding? Often referred to as “vibe coding,” it enables users to create software code just by typing simple commands. This is a shift from traditional coding, which usually requires in-depth knowledge of programming languages. Tools like Replit and Cursor make coding accessible to everyone, even those without a background in technology.
Wang compares today’s tech advancements to the early days of the computer boom, when pioneers like Bill Gates changed the landscape. He believes we are at a similar turning point now. He noted that spending time (like 10,000 hours) learning to utilize these new tools can give individuals a significant edge. His company, founded in 2016, is now valued at $29 billion.
With a net worth of $3.2 billion, Wang was recently appointed as Meta’s chief AI officer. He sees incredible potential in AI, projecting that within five years, AI systems may code as effectively as expert programmers. While this raises questions about job security in software programming, Wang encourages teens to embrace AI. He believes they should harness these tools to become innovators in the field.
In his own words, “If you are, like, 13 years old, you should spend all of your time vibe coding. That’s how you should live your life.”
This is an exciting time in tech. A recent survey by PwC found that 77% of executives believe AI will create jobs in the next years, highlighting the balance between innovation and employment. Engaging with AI tools today could open doors to endless opportunities tomorrow.
