The Syracuse University Volleyball team faced a tough opponent in #6 Louisville, losing in straight sets this past Sunday at L&N Federal Credit Union Arena. The Orange, now with a record of 9-3 and 1-1 in the ACC, showed improvement throughout the match but couldn’t secure a win.
Gabby McLaughlin led Syracuse with eight kills and eight digs. Tehya Maeva stepped up with 12 assists, 10 digs, and three service aces. Skylar George and Sydnie Waller both added five kills each, showcasing their offensive skills.
In the first set, Louisville took charge early, dominating with an impressive .516 hitting percentage. Syracuse struggled to find their rhythm, losing 25-8.
The second set saw a better performance from Syracuse. With ten kills, the Orange fought back, but Louisville pulled ahead to win it 25-17.
In the third set, things got interesting. Syracuse stayed close, even taking a 12-9 lead at one point, thanks largely to Maeva’s three service aces. Waller’s timely kills kept the Orange in the game, but Louisville ultimately triumphed 25-20.
Syracuse registered five service aces and collected a total of 39 digs in defense, showing their ability to compete against high-ranking teams.
Looking ahead, the Orange will continue their ACC journey next weekend in Virginia. They will face Virginia Tech on Friday at 6:00 PM and Virginia on Sunday at 1:00 PM, with both matches being broadcast on the ACNNX platform.
This season, teams like Syracuse are learning quickly how the competition level in the ACC has risen.
