UCA Dominates Governors with 3-0 Victory: A Recap of Austin Peay State University Athletics

CONWAY, Ark. – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team faced a tough matchup against Central Arkansas, losing 3-0 in their first Atlantic Sun Conference games over the weekend.

Central Arkansas (5-7, 2-0 ASUN) surged early in the first set. They quickly built a large lead, reaching 22-7. Although Austin Peay (2-11, 0-2 ASUN) scored a few points later in the set, they fell short, with Central Arkansas winning 25-11.

The second set was more competitive. Both teams struggled to gain an upper hand, leading to seven ties. After a quick run from Central Arkansas pushed their lead to 14-8, Austin Peay tried to close the gap. They managed to cut the score to 21-18, but Central Arkansas took the set 25-19.

In the final set, the Governors started strong, jumping to an 11-3 lead. Taly Cloyd stood out with five kills. However, the Sugar Bears bounced back, executing an impressive 8-1 run that tied the set at 18. The teams exchanged points, but a crucial block by Central Arkansas secured their victory with a 26-24 win in the third set.

As they regroup, the Governors will host Eastern Kentucky this Friday at 6 p.m. in the Winfield Dunn Center. This gives them a chance to turn the tide after a challenging opening weekend.
