Mikey Musumeci stepped back into the ring Thursday night to defend his UFC BJJ bantamweight title against Keven Carrasco. As always, Musumeci showcased his unique talent and quickly secured victory. Known for his skill, he hasn’t lost since 2021.
Musumeci began the match with an energetic stance and wasted no time pulling guard. Carrasco engaged but stood up after Musumeci attempted a leg lock. When Musumeci got a hold of Carrasco’s leg again, he forced a tap-out using his signature Mikey lock.
In the co-main event, Carlos Henrique defended his lightweight belt for the first time against Matheus Gabriel, another skilled Brazilian grappler. Henrique overcame an early armbar attempt and maneuvered skillfully, focusing on heel hooks. He ultimately won the match by decision.
After the fight, Henrique called out Samuel Nagai. Nagai, the 2023 IBJJF world champion, had just defeated Kennedy Maciel, son of Brazilian jiu-jitsu legend Rubens Charles “Cobrinha.”
One of the night’s highlights featured Jansen Gomes, a two-time IBJJF world champ. He squared off against Gustavo Batista, a three-time IBJJF world gold medalist. After a thrilling 15-minute no-gi battle, Gomes evened the score with a unanimous decision victory.
Earlier matches saw impressive first-round finishes from Jalen Fonacier and Ana Mayordomo, who both forced their opponents, Pedro Nakano and Shye Lilly, to tap out. Andy Murasaki and Andy Varela took a bit longer but finished Kris Olivio and Daniel Sathler with decisive submissions.
Looking ahead, UFC BJJ 4 is set for December 11 in Las Vegas, coinciding with the final UFC event of the year. Andrew Tackett will headline, though his opponent hasn’t been announced yet. William Tackett will compete against Ronaldo Junior, and Bella Mir will take on Rana Willink. Renato Canuto will face Elijah Dorsey in another exciting matchup.
As the world of Brazilian jiu-jitsu continues to grow, the community remains vibrant and passionate, with rising stars and seasoned veterans constantly pushing each other. The blend of tactics, sportsmanship, and competitiveness keeps fans engaged and eagerly awaiting the next event.
