In that movie, the family’s dog can sense the ghostly presence before the humans do. He wanted to explore that theme—telling the story from the dog’s point of view.

Leonberg cast Indy, his own dog, as the lead. He loved Indy’s intense gaze and thought it would be perfect for the role. Through Indy’s expressions—his head tilts, whimpers, and curious looks—the audience experiences a haunting adventure. Since most human faces are hidden, viewers relate to Indy as he tries to warn his owner of danger, only to be ignored sometimes. This unique viewpoint adds emotional weight to the story.

Filming wasn’t a one-and-done process. Over three years, Leonberg and his wife, Kari Fischer, captured Indy in various situations.
