Jumping into Digimon Story: Time Stranger is easy. This RPG has a simple design. The battles are turn-based, and you have waypoints guiding you on most missions. After spending about 40 hours in this Digital World, I’ve gathered some handy tips for new players. So grab your Digivice, and let’s go!
Watch Out for Gated Side Quests
One frustration you might face is how the game locks side quests. At one point, it will warn you that some quests will be unavailable for a long stretch of time. It’s easy to assume this means just a few hours, but it can actually take dozens of hours before you can complete them again. These side quests aren’t just fluff; they give you Anomaly Points that help boost your Agent rank, which is essential for leveling up your team. If you ignore that warning, you might find your progress stalling later on.
Use Items without Worry
A nice feature of Time Stranger is that you can use items and attack in the same turn. Need to heal your team or remove a negative effect? You can do that while still dealing damage. It really helps, especially during those longer boss fights.
Level Up Smartly
The Anomaly Points from quests allow you to boost your Agent rank. This opens new skills on the skill tree that can benefit your whole team. Each path focuses on certain Digimon traits, like friendly or brave. Instead of grinding through battles, strategize which traits you want to enhance. This will make your team much stronger.
Don’t Save Cross Arts
Cross Arts are powerful abilities that can heal, boost stats, or significantly damage foes. You might feel tempted to save them for big battles, but they charge up quickly through any actions during fights. Using them often can turn the tide in your favor, so don’t hold back!
Always Have a Rideable Digimon
Some Digimon can serve as both team members and mounts. I enjoyed riding my Growlmon until he evolved into WarGrowlmon, who couldn’t carry me anymore. Thankfully, WereGarurumon and then MetalGarurumon had my back. Riding speeds up exploration, but remember that as Digimon evolve, they might lose that ability. Keep this in mind as you navigate through the game.
This game isn’t just about battles; it’s about making choices that shape your adventure. Understanding the mechanics will help you enjoy your journey in the Digital World even more!
