University of Alaska Anchorage Hockey Kicks Off Season with Thrilling Opener

Anchorage, Alaska – In an exciting season opener, the University of Alaska Anchorage faced off against Bemidji State, but the night ended with a tough 9-2 loss for the Seawolves.

The Beavers kicked things off with a goal from Patrik Satosaari just over seven minutes into the first period. Their momentum continued, as they scored four goals in the second period. Ethan Warrener finally put the Seawolves on the board with a goal assisted by Karter McNarland and Ryan Johnson, making it 4-1 just before the second intermission.

Speaking of Johnson, he’s on fire: that goal marked his 11th consecutive game with a point, a streak that started back in January 2025.

Despite the Seawolves putting up a valiant effort, the Beavers pounced again. Luke Roelofs scored shortly after Warrener’s goal, and Bemidji State added three more in the third period. Oren Shtrom managed to find the net late in the game, thanks to an assist from Judah Makway.

The shots on goal were close, with BSU taking 31 to UAA’s 29. Special teams struggled for the Seawolves, who went 0-for-4 on power plays, while Bemidji State capitalized, going 1-for-2.

In the net, Greg Orosz started for UAA but let in four goals before Tyler Krivtsov took over. Krivtsov couldn’t stop the bleeding, allowing five more goals in the last 33 minutes.

As the teams prepare for a rematch on Saturday at 5 PM, fans are hoping for a turnaround. This game serves as a reminder of the challenges in the early season, but there’s always room for improvement. Keep an eye on the Seawolves’ upcoming games to see how they bounce back!
