Tragic Twist: Man’s Wildlife Adventure Ends in Suspected Bear Attack Days After Sharing Photos with Family

A 60-year-old man from Missouri was found dead near his campsite in Arkansas after suffering serious injuries in what appears to be a bear attack. Just two days earlier, he had shared photos of a bear with his family from the same campsite.

The man’s truck and campsite were discovered near Sam’s Throne Campground by a deputy after his son reported him missing. Signs of a struggle and drag marks indicated something was amiss. Tragically, his body was found a short distance away, showing injuries typical of a large predator.

Sheriff Glenn Wheeler noted, “Until the Arkansas Crime Lab completes the autopsy, we can’t definitively blame a bear, but all signs point in that direction.” He also cautioned others in the region to remain alert. According to Wheeler, “Once a bear becomes predatory, that behavior often continues.”

In response to this serious incident, the U.S. Forest Service has temporarily closed the campgrounds to search for the bear, potentially setting traps in the area.
