Savor the Semester: Join Slow Food at the MUB Market Kickoff!

On Tuesday, September 30, the UNH organization Slow Food held its first MUB market and community dinner of the semester in the Strafford Room. Originally set for September 25 outside, the event moved indoors due to bad weather.

The community dinner took place at the Waysmeet Center. Various local vendors like New Moon, Freedom Cafe, and Hickory Nut Farm showcased their food, clothing, and accessories. Students who bought items received a free Slow Food MUB market t-shirt.

The Climate Action League of Conservation Voters (LCV) had a table at the market, aiming to push elected officials to support environmental protection. This grassroots movement operates in eight states, including New Hampshire. You can learn more about their efforts and how to volunteer here.

If you missed this market, don’t worry. Slow Food hosts multiple events throughout the school year. For more information or to get involved, check out their page on Catalyst, join their biweekly meetings on Wednesdays at 6 PM in the Waysmeet Center, or follow them on Instagram @slowfoodunh.

Community events like this are vital for fostering connections and supporting local businesses. Recent studies show community engagement can boost local economies and enhance residents’ well-being. Data from the National Conference of State Legislatures highlights that areas with active local markets see a rise in consumer spending and community involvement.

As you participate in events like these, you’re not just enjoying food; you’re also contributing to a vibrant local culture. So, if you missed out this time, keep an eye out for upcoming markets!
