Commercial Bank recently received an appreciation award from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change during Qatar’s launch of its National Strategy to Combat Desertification. This recognition highlights the bank’s commitment to sustainability and its role in supporting Qatar’s environmental goals under the National Vision 2030.
The event, attended by senior officials and private sector partners, aimed to enhance collaboration for a sustainable future in Qatar. Representing the bank, Eiman al-Naemi, Executive General Manager and Chief Marketing Officer, reaffirmed the importance of shared responsibility in promoting sustainability.
Over the years, Commercial Bank has made significant strides in green practices, evidenced by its MSCI ESG rating upgrade from ‘BBB’ to ‘A’ in 2024. The bank also issued a CHF225 million green bond—the largest of its kind in Qatar—to fund projects focused on sustainable water management and energy-efficient construction. These efforts earned Commercial Bank recognition as the “Sustainable and Green Bank of the Year in Qatar” by The Asian Banker.
Stephen Moss, the bank’s Group CEO, emphasized that sustainability is integral to Commercial Bank’s identity as a Qatari institution. He believes it guides their operations and innovation, helping transform environmental responsibility into everyday practices.
Al-Naemi touched on the bank’s vision as a journey of national progress that merges purpose and innovation. She added that every initiative, from green financing to digital advancements, aims to create enduring value for customers and future generations.
Commercial Bank is committed to enhancing its partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change. Together, they are running programs focused on conservation, afforestation, and community engagement, contributing to Qatar’s bigger environmental goals.
Furthermore, public reaction to such sustainability efforts has been positive. A recent survey showed that 75% of Qataris support initiatives aimed at environmental protection. This growing social awareness reflects a broader trend where consumers are increasingly favoring businesses that prioritize sustainability.
