During a recent trip to Las Vegas, a woman from the Bahamas faced a surprising bill of $224 for using a power outlet in her hotel room. Sharina Butler was staying at the Paris Hotel when she and her son unplugged a mini-bar tray to charge his phone, not realizing it would trigger a hefty fee.

Butler later shared her experience on TikTok, expressing disbelief at the charges. She pointed out that the notice about the fee was hard to see, describing the text as “this small,” and questioned why a guest would read the tray while not using its pricey items.

At checkout, a hotel staff member informed her of the charges, a fee of $56 per day for simply unplugging the tray. Butler was taken aback, particularly because there was no visible warning near the outlet itself.

Despite her protests, the hotel upheld the charge, leading her to block the card she used for payment. “There is absolutely no way they can charge me this much just to use a socket,” Butler declared.

Her TikTok post quickly gained traction, amassing over 100k views. Many users echoed her outrage, citing similar experiences at the Paris Hotel.
