How Shubhanshu Shukla Envisions the Space Sector Powering India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 Vision

Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla recently made headlines as the first Indian to visit the International Space Station (ISS). He believes that the space sector will be a crucial driving force behind India’s vision for ‘Viksit Bharat 2047,’ a goal aimed at creating a developed India by the year 2047.

After completing an 18-day mission with Axiom-4, Shukla shared his thoughts with students from the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) board in North Goa. “Space will act as a powerful engine for our progress,” he noted, expressing his excitement to contribute to this monumental journey.

Shukla highlighted significant projects like Gaganyaan, India’s first human spaceflight program, and the planned Bharatiya Antariksh Station, an upcoming orbital space station. Both initiatives are spearheaded by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

He described space missions as complex and ambitious, emphasizing that they require a robust ecosystem for success. “We’re not just dreaming; we’re building real capabilities,” he said.

Reflecting on his experience at the ISS, Shukla found it both thrilling and insightful. “Even with all the preparation, the actual experience is unique. It’s a different reality up there,” he remarked.

The space sector’s growth could positively impact various industries. According to recent reports, the global space economy is projected to reach $1 trillion by 2040. This trend opens doors for innovation and job creation in India, aligning with Shukla’s vision for the future.
