Edinboro Triumphs Over Slippery Rock in Thrilling Three-Set Match – Game Recap

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University volleyball team faced a tough loss at home on Friday, falling to Edinboro in three close sets: 28-26, 25-15, and 28-26. With this defeat, Slippery Rock’s record now stands at 9-8 overall and 2-2 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division. Edinboro improves to 6-8 overall, now 1-3 in the conference.

Callie Chevalier led The Rock with 11 kills and two blocks. Lauren VonderHaar and Emry Rumbaugh each added six kills. VonderHaar also contributed three blocks, showcasing the team’s defensive efforts. Other notable attackers included Addison Jones, Ava Haynes, and Gwen McCarthy, each recording three kills, while Jones and Haynes also notched two blocks.

Paityn Krause stood out with 23 assists, three aces, and four digs, and libero Kara Pasquale made her mark with 12 digs, highlighting her defensive skills.

The first set was a nail-biter, featuring 13 ties and six lead changes. Both teams fought hard, but Edinboro secured the set thanks to a Rock attack error and a kill from Faith Schneider.

Slippery Rock began the second set strong, taking the first five points, which prompted an Edinboro timeout. Unfortunately, Edinboro took control after the timeout, dominating the rest of the set for a 25-15 win.

The final set mirrored the intensity of the first, with 14 ties and seven lead changes. In a tight finish, Edinboro clinched the win with a kill from Makayla Neelands and a block from Maggie Koster, again ending 28-26.

In the match stats, Edinboro led with 44 kills compared to Slippery Rock’s 37 and had higher attack percentages (.287 vs. .113). They also outperformed in aces (6-3), blocks (12-7), and digs (48-37). Reilly Parent was particularly impressive for Edinboro, achieving 17 kills, four aces, and 15 digs.

Slippery Rock will finish its five-match homestand against Gannon University on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Morrow Field House.
